Background: • produced by History and premiered commercial-free on September 11, 2008 • depicts in virtually real time the events of the September 11 attacks using raw video footage, and audiotapes from amateur citizens and journalists. • most of the archival video footage was in possession of the U.S. government but was released to History years after 9/11.

  3. “Editing, or postproduction, is the process in which a film or video’s component parts-visulas, sound, word, music, and text-are woven together through storrytelling and juxtaposition to create meaning” (Cizek 2005, 168).

  4. “An editor’s skill and creativity can make or break the quality of a video-turning amateur footage into compelling videos” (Cizek 2005, 168).

  5. “As the editor, you are mediating the relationship between the subject and the audience. You have the capacity to perpetuate stereotypes or to advocate for a new relationship between audiences and subjects as partners” (Cizek 2005, 176).
