Estimation on how many channels needed for Endcaps Each endcap (north or south) will carry 4 stations, and each station will carry 96 detectors (Large, medium or small, with 6, 5 and 3 PHX chips respectively). If we suppose the end of detectors of outer-circle and inner-circle should match (which is not mentioned in the proposal), then the nearest two stations will carry 48 small(outer) and 48 medium(inner) detectors, while the other 6 stations will carry 48 large(outer) and 48 medium(inner). Thus: Total PHX chips needed: ( 48*3+48*3*6+48*4*5 ) * 2 = 3936 And total strips needed: (48*1536 + 48*3*3072 + 48*4*2560) * 2 = 2015232
