Mercy and Grace are Different Justice – Getting what we deserve Mercy – NOT getting what we deserve Grace – Getting what we DON’T deserve GRACE involves a FREE gift. Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 5:8-10 God’s grace was given without consideration for our character at the time. • 8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. • 9 Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him. • 10 For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.
1 John 4:10 • In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. This loving mercy didn’t start with us, it started with God!

Yet, God offers them mercy, NOT justice

Psalm 103:10-12 Our God is MERCIFUL • 10 He has not dealt with us according to our sins, Nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. • 11 For as high as the heavens are above the earth, So great is His lovingkindness toward those who fear Him. • 12 As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us.
What about Under the New Covenant? Our God is MERCIFUL Hebrews 4:14-16 • 14 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. • 15 For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin. • 16 Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
What about Under the New Covenant? Our God is MERCIFUL Ephesians 2:4-5 • 4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, • 5 even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved—
How to Receive Mercy • Matthew 5:3-6 • 3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. • 4 “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. • 5 “Blessed are the gentle, for they shall inherit the earth. • 6 “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.
