School Counselor Symposium • Annual staff development training for school counselors typically held in February during National School Counselor Week (Thursday, February 9, 2012) • 2012 - Joining with Madison County Schools (This allowed for collaboration and efficient use of resources between systems.) • Funding previously came from SDFSC, Title IV Grant, but the grant has ended

Sponsorship • Huntsville Museum of Art – ($2100) Facility • Redstone Federal Credit Union – ($700) Breakfast • ASVAB Program – ($1000) Lunch • North Alabama Educators Credit Union – ($500) Counselor resources • Senators Holtzclaw and Sanford – ($4000) Keynote Speaker and supplies • Appleton Learning – ($1000) Counselor resources • Kiwanis Club – ($5000) Counselor resources • Bradford Health Services – ($500) Counselor resources • Huntsville City & Madison County Schools - ($1000 each) Counselor resources • Total - $16,800

Agenda/Outline • Registration • Breakfast • Keynote Speaker – Julia Cook, award winning children’s book author, elementary counselor, and motivational speaker. • Breakout sessions : Learning Styles by Appleton Learning and Substance Abuse Trends Among Youth by Bradford Health Services • Lunch • Product Showcase sponsored by the National Center for Youth Issues: Each Counselor will receive a $100 voucher that will enable them to purchase counseling resources such as curriculum materials, DVD’s, games, activity guides, books, puppets, etc.
