  3. We Still Have a Problem • Holiness • + Sin________ • = Death • What does God see? • Romans 3:23 • “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” • Isaiah 59:2 • “Your iniquities have separated you from your God.” • Romans 6:23 • “The wages of sin is death.”

  4. Man’s Solution • If I do more good than evil, I will be right with God. • I’ll try harder from now on. • I’m better than…

  5. However… • Proverbs 16:25 • There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end leads to death. • James 2:10 • Whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it.

  6. God’s Solution • Jesus is… • 1Peter 1:19 • A Lamb without blemish or defect • 1John 5:20 • The true God and eternal life • Jeremiah 23:6 • The Lord our Righteousness

  7. What Jesus has done • John 1:29 • Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! • Isaiah 53:6 • The Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all. • 2Corinthians 5:21 • God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

  8. How we receive this “Great Exchange” • By Grace (Sola Gratia) • Titus 3:5 • He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. • Romans 6:23 • The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

  9. How we receive this “Great Exchange” • Through Faith (Sola Fidei) • John 3:36 • Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on him. • Ephesians 2:8 • By grace you have been saved through faith – and this is not of yourselves, it is the gift of God.

  10. How we receive this “Great Exchange” • Via His Word (Sola Scriptura) • Romans 10:17 • Faith comes from hearing the message… through the Word of Christ. • Romans 1:16 • The gospel… is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes.

  11. Sanctified Christians • John 10:10 • I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. • Ephesians 2:10 • We are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works. • Ephesians 2:19 • You are no longer… aliens, but… members of God’s household.

  12. Sanctified Christians • Matthew 11:28 • Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. • Galatians 5:22-23 • The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. • Psalm 50:15 • Call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you. ** Good works do not produce Christians, Christians produce good works! **
