  1. The Lumla nunnery / girls’school project, - a school for girls. This is the site where the nunnery /girls’ school is being built, providing education and housing for around 80 girls aged 8 to 14.

  2. The current total estimate for the construction of the nunnery / girls’school, which include classrooms, dormitories, library, dining hall, kitchen, clinic and temple, is approx. E 500,000.

  3. The project has obtained all official planning and building permissions and is recognized as an official charitable trust in India.

  4. Work on the foundations started at the end of September 2012.

  5. Youngsters from Lumla and some of the closer villages volunteered helping with some of the ground work.

  6. The local support means that the nunnery / girls’ school project is fully appreciated and accepted by the local communities.

  7. and local support is much needed….

  8. The plot of land is located on a steep hillside of the Himalayas at an altitude of around 2400m above sea-level.

  9. A lot of soil has to be moved to level the grounds.

  10. Many hands make light work…

  11. The foundations of the first terrace have been completed.

  12. And we are ready to continue…

  13. …but construction work is seasonally restricted by severe winter weather and monsoons causing flooding and landslides.
