  3. College Requirements • An Insurance Underwriter career requires having an extensive education. Each State has regulation or State Insurance Commission, that license underwrites, after completing required course studies, examinations, and continuing education. There is no Federal Regulatory System regarding any standard of education. Underwriters must have good judgment skills, good communication, interpersonal skills, and being able to work well with other agents, and insurance professionals. Specialized fields in underwriting insurance include: Health, life, property and liability (automobile, fire, and worker's

Other certifacites • Obtain a secondary school degree. While it is not a strict requirement, having a secondary school degree will help you become an insurance underwriter by improving your ability to compete with other job applicants. Many employers will look for underwriter candidates with degrees in business, though having another academic concentration will not exclude you, if you have some coursework in accounting, finance, computer applications or business law. Additionally, many sizable insurance companies may have internships or work study programs that you may be able to partake in.
