I. Jehovah-Nakah reveals God’s severity and judgement upon sin.
Eph 4:26 Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:
Isaiah 1:4 Ah sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, a seed of evildoers, children that are corrupters: they have forsaken the LORD, they have provoked the Holy One of Israel unto anger, they are gone away backward.
II. Jehovah-Nakah never smites until his mercy and longsuffering are exhausted
A. God will judge but He is patient and longsuffering with man
Gen 6:3 And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.
Gen 6:12 And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth.
Gen 6:13 And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.
C. God smote the Egyptians because of Pharoah’sstubborn heart
Exo 3:20 And I will stretch out my hand, and smite Egypt with all my wonders which I will do in the midst thereof: and after that he will let you go.
III. Jehovah-Nakah is to be greatly feared by those who walk contrary to His word
B. He does not chastise the unsaved when His longsuffering is exhausted but rather punishes
Rev 19:15 And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.
Micah 7:18 Who is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? he retaineth not his anger for ever, because he delighteth in mercy.
