  12. PLANTS

  13. Plantsare living organisms belonging to the kingdom Plantae. They include familiar organisms such as trees, herbs, bushes, grasses, vines, ferns, mosses, and green algae.

  14. These are the reproductive parts of a plant. FLOWER

  15. Flower petals and the flowers smell attract insects and bees to pollinate the flower. FLOWER

  16. These are the parts of the plant where food is made by photosynthesis . It takes in carbon dioxide from the sunlight. LEAVES

  17. During the photosynthesis the leaves use light energy to change carbon dioxide and water into food. LEAVES

  18. These support the upper parts of plants. Water dissolved nutrients from the soil travel up the stem in a system of tubes. STEM

  19. Food from the leaves travel down stems to the roots. Stems also store food for the plant. STEM

  20. The stem supports a plant and helps give it shape. The stem also moves water from the plant’s roots and food from the leaves to the rest of the plant. STEM

  21. These anchor plants in the soil. Water and minerals are taken from the soil through the roots. ROOTS

  22. A plant’s roots collect and store food and water from the soil and anchor the plant in the ground. Most roots grow underground. ROOTS

  23. Flowers are the reproductive part of most plants. Flowers contain pollen and tiny eggs called ovules. After pollination of the flower and fertilization of the ovule, the ovule develops into a fruit flower

  24. Stems do many things. They support the plant. They act like the plant's plumbing system, conducting water and nutrients from the roots and food in the form of glucose from the leaves to other plant parts. Stems can be herbaceous like the bendable stem of a daisy or woody like the trunk of an oak tree. stem

  25. Most plants' food is made in their leaves. Leaves are designed to capture sunlight which the plant uses to make food through a process called photosynthesis. leaves

  26. RootsRoots act like straws absorbing water and minerals from the soil. Tiny root hairs stick out of the root, helping in the absorption. Roots help to anchor the plant in the soil so it does not fall over. Roots also store extra food for future use. roots

  29. Seeds Runners/ stolon Rhizomes Bulb Cuttings how? Do you know that plants propagate in different ways?

  30. S E ED S

  31. Most common means of plant propagation.Plants propagate sexually through seeds, which are produced in flowers through the fusion of egg and sperm. Shownhere is the seed of the European, or sweet chestnut, which develops inside a fruit called a bur. SEEDS

  32. RUNNERS OR STOLON

  33. The runnersdevelop new plants by the process of layering. Like all stems, runners have nodes, regions on the stem where leaves typically develop. RUNNERS

  34. B U L B

  35. Bulbs are specialized underground stems that give rise to new plants. The overlapping fleshy leaves of a bulb store food for the growth of the central bud and the stem, leaves, and flowers that emerge from it above ground. BULB

  36. RHIZOMES

  37. Plants grow from underground. An underground stem that grows horizontally and from which upright stems appear. RHIZOMES

  38. CUTTINGS

  39. The process of removing a small portion of a growing plant and treating it so that roots are developed. The cutting can be transplanted and will in time, produce its blooms. It usually made from a portion of the stem, from leaves, tubers or from roots. CUTTINGS

  40. ROOT reproduction carrots radish Sweet potato PLANTS

  41. Leaf propagation begonia kalanchoe PLANTS

  42. Stem Propagation orchid golden bush PLANTS

  43. Feed yourMind

  44. Trivias: • Bananas are the most popular fruit in America. The average person eats 33 pounds of bananas a year! • Blueberries are the second most popular berry in the United States. next

  45. Almost a third of the world’s total land area is covered by forests. • Tomatoes are very high in the carotenoidLycopene; eating foods with carotenoids can lower your risk of cancer next

  46. A single baked potato contains less than 250 calories and is over 99%. • Onions contain a mild antibiotic that fights infections, soothes burns, tames bee stings and relieves the itch of athletes foot. • Grapes are one of the oldest cultivated fruits. They have been around for more than 8,000 years. back
