  1. Push taps or twist taps- which saves more water? Lets find out …………. By Miss Guest’s First Class

  2. Our experiment: • We had the task of finding out which tap- twist or push, was more efficient, i.e. which one used the least water.

  3. What we did: • We nominated two people to wash their hands- one using the twist tap and the other using the push tap. • We collected the water being used in a basin and poured the water from both basins into two separate jars of the same size.

  4. Next ……. • We drew a line on each jar at the point where the water rose up to. • There was a BIG difference between the two!

  5. For the next five school days… • We wrote a tick beside our name on a chart which teacher had made, every time we washed our hands after going to the toilet.

  6. After the 5 days… • Teacher counted up all the times we washed our hands during a school week using our new push taps in the toilet and then multiplied that by the amount of water in the jar from the push tap

  7. Also… • Teacher calculated how much water we would have used if we still had twist taps in the toilets. • We examined the difference between the 2 results.

  8. We discovered….. • That each time we washed our hands with a twist tap, it used about 12ml of water. • Whereas if we still used twist taps, we would use around 90ml of water each time we washed our hands!!! • That’s a BIG difference!

  9. Finally…. • We calculated how much water we would save every week by using these fantastic water- saving twist taps. • We discovered that we would save 11.7 litres of water per classroom, PER WEEK!

  10. This shows how many times we used the push taps in one week- the total was 150 times.

  11. Imagine if…. • We still were using twist taps and washing our hands that many times in a week! • We would be wasting a lot of water so we think that the Push Tap is a clear winner!!
