  3. WELCOME TO JEOPARDY!!! • This is only one Tier 1 strategy/intervention and not RtI in its totality. • What is “Discovery Session on Environmental Strategies for All Students”?

  4. RtI allows teachers to work with students in a meaningful way to prevent what and to close what. • What is “problems” and “the gap”?

  5. RtI allows classroom teachers to do something what with students who do not make sufficient progress. • What is “different”?

  6. These intended recipients must get good teaching at Tier 1 before moving into Tier 2 or 3. • Who are “all students”?

  7. The percentage of students who should be successful at the Tier 1 level. • What is “80-90%”?

  8. These two questions posed by R. Dufour are particularly relevant to the RtI philosophy. • What are “questions 3 & 4”? (How will we respond when some students do not learn? How will we respond when some students have already learned?

Moving to a RtI model. • We have numerous interventions already present in the North East School Division • We needed to formalize and become more consistent with using Tiers of Instruction and growing interventions where necessary • We needed to utilize a professional model of supports if we wanted to see growth with our students • RtI is not intended to only deal with students with special needs - it is intended for all students

  14. 1. WHAT DOES RTI MEAN TO YOU? A systemic/collaborative (parents, students, division, school) approach framework to ensuring all students are successful from both an academic, social and behavioural perspective. Pro-active/Problem-solve Data Collection Data Monitor On-going Revisit/Adjust Ultimate goal so that all students will learn Focusing on human capital expertise.

  15. 2. HOW DO YOU (OR DID YOU) INTRODUCE AND EXPLAIN RTI TO YOUR STAFF? HOW DO YOU GET TEACHER “BUY-IN”? • Introduced through staff meetings/SIP days • Brainstormed with staff, strategies they were already doing • Identified the tiers and identified what takes place at each level • Share successes to help teacher buy in • Consistent follow-up • Teachers buy in when they feel supported • Make connections (how things support each other) • School based process where staff is engaged

  16. 3. WHAT ARE SOME ISSUES FOR YOU IN RTI RIGHT NOW? WHAT IS TAKING UP THE MOST TIME IN YOUR SCHOOL FOR YOU AND YOUR TEACHERS?

  17. 4. WHAT DOES YOUR SCHOOL NEED TO MOVE FORWARD IN RTI? TIME: • Collect data • Reflect and refine approaches to RtI: strategies, collection tools • Consistent meeting times • Time to wrap our heads around the RtI model • Time to sift through resources before we “drill down” SUCCESS STORIES: • Share to help with “buy-in” (our teachers need this opportunity) • Clear, solid, and consistent instructional approaches

TAKE A PEEK: • Share approaches across the division – what worked and what didn’t DIVISIONAL PERSONNEL: • Clear definition of role on PST’s (ie: LC’s) • Timely access to support personnel (ie: OT’s) RESOURCES: • Timely access to resources (ie: laptops to support RtI) • Specific data collection tools
