2. Henry broke from many things, for example, five of his six wives. However we’re not talking about that today. A lot of people don’t know about his break from Rome. Which is what we’re going to talk about today. We aim to find out the exact reasons for this break from Rome.

6. Who is Henry? Henry was the second monarch of the ‘House of Tudor’. He came after his father, Henry VIII. Henry was a significant figure of the English monarchy. He enforced the Protestant Reformation upon his country, resulting in the conversion of most English citizen’s religion. Apart from this he is most commonly known for his struggles with Rome. These struggles ultimately led to his separating the Anglican Church from the Roman hiearchy.

7. What do you mean ‘Break from Rome’?

8. What we mean is… …Henry didn’t break physically from the city of Rome, but something very special in it. Yes, most of you have already guessed it, the Pope and the Christian Church! Did that clear it up for you Lead Zepplin?

9. Of course it did! But why’s it so important?

10. Its important because… …Henry’s break from Rome is a huge factor in why nearly all of England follow the Protestant religion today. He was a leader, so when he chose something, the rest of the country would follow suit. That has to clear things up now Lead?

13. ECONOMIC Now that Henry was the head of his own church, any money collected or raised would go directly to him. When he belonged to the Catholic Church, the money would go to Rome, to the Pope. With the whole country converting and more money being collected, this was a substantial gain for King Henry VIII.

15. Personal Henry’s personal reason for his break from Rome is more power. With a whole church of his own, he could make his own rules and have an even bigger say on proceedings in his country. With his own church he was able to command every one in England with his title both in the Monarchy and in the Church.

17. Religous One of the major reasons that Henry broke from Rome was because the Pope would refuse to divorce him from Catherine of Aragon. He wanted to divorce her because she failed to wield him any male heirs, and he had fallen in love with Anne Boleyn who he thought could deliver him a son. The only way of achieving this divorce was through the Protestant Church.
