EPOCH 1000 Series Software Update New Feature Overview - February 2011
EPOCH 1000 Series Software Update • Olympus NDT has announced a new release of EPOCH 1000 Series Operating Software that includes several new software features and options. • New Software Features/Updates Include: • Editable Parameters • GUI Speed Updates • Standby Mode • New Icons and Measurements • Color Scheme Changes • Gain Curve for TVG • Datalogger Memo Feature • Additional Changes
Editable Parameters • The Editable Parameters function similar to the EPOCH XT is now a standard software feature on the EPOCH 1000 Series. • This feature allows the user to customize the preset values that are displayed during coarse adjustment for these specific parameters. • If desired, the user can then export the editable parameters setup in XML format to a USB memory stick and import to another EPOCH 1000 Series instrument. • To access the Editable Parameters menu, select Inst Setup > Editable Parameters.
Editable Parameters- Conventional UT • Each instrument mode (UT and PA) has its own Editable Parameters menu with separate sets of parameters. • UT Mode Parameters: • Velocity • Gain Step • Freq • Angle • Thick • X Value • Auto XX
Editable Parameters- Phased Array • Each instrument mode (UT and PA) has its own Editable Parameters menu with separate sets of parameters. • PA Mode Parameters: • Velocity • Gain Step • Freq • Thick • Auto XX
Editable Parameters- Changing Values • The instrument comes with certain preset values for each of the parameters, but the user can change any of these values as necessary to meet their needs. • To change a preset value: • Select the parameter you want to edit, and press the right arrow to view the Selection measurements. • Choose the value you want to change, and press the CHECK key. • Adjust to the desired value and press CHECK to confirm.
Editable Parameters- Adding Values • Users can add a virtually unlimited number of preset values to most of the editable parameters. • Exceptions are Gain Step (2 preset values) and AutoXX (1 preset value). • To add a preset value: • Select the parameter you want to edit, and press the right arrow to view the Selection measurements. • Press [P1] to Add a preset value. • Adjust to the desired value and press CHECK to confirm. • The new value will be added to the bottom of the list. To rearrange the order of the preset values, use the Move Up [P3], Move Down [P4], or Sort [P5] functions. • To Delete a preset value, select the desired value and press [P2].
Editable Parameters- Adding Values (cont.) • The EPOCH 1000 can only accommodate certain pulse frequency values. If a non valid frequency value is entered, the instrument will display an error and automatically rounds down to the closest valid frequency.
Editable Parameters- Adding Values (cont.) • In the Beam setup menu in PA mode (PA Probe > Beam), the preset values for Thick and Velocity will also be displayed above the parameter P-keys.
Editable Parameters- Other Information • If desired, the user can export the editable parameters setup in XML format to a USB memory stick and import to another EPOCH 1000 Series instrument using the [P1]Export and [P2]Import functions. • To Reset the Editable Parameters back to the system default values, press [P3]. NOTE: For parameters that have different values in Metric and English units (e.g. Velocity), the user can store different values in each measurement system. Only the values for the current units setting will be displayed in the Editable Parameters menu.
Parameter Coarse and Fine Adjustment • When changing parameter values using Coarse adjustment, all digits after the digit being adjusted are set to zero for the following parameters: • Range • Delay • Zero (UT Only) • Fine adjustment will allow the user to modify the remaining digits. Fine Adjustment Coarse Adjustment
Parameter Coarse and Fine Adjustment (cont.) • Adjusting the parameters below using Coarse adjustment will toggle through the preset values from the Editable Parameters screen: • Velocity • Frequency • Angle (UT Only) • Thick • X-Value (UT Only) • Fine adjustment will scroll through all non-preset values. Coarse Adjustment Fine Adjustment
Phased Array Image Updating • The Auto-XX% function in PA mode has been drastically improved and is now much faster than in previous versions! • The update speed of the image/A-Scan in PA mode for adjustments like Range, Delay, Gain, and Gates has also been increased. • These two improvements provide a more real-time response of the instrument during parameter adjustment.
Standby Power Mode • The user now has the option to put their EPOCH 1000 unit in Standby Mode rather than turn it off completely. • Standby mode uses half as much battery life in a given time period as leaving the unit on! • When the unit is put into Standby mode, the unit saves the current on-screen parameters to display them again at start-up, or in case power is accidentally lost while in Standby mode. When the unit is in Standby mode, the 3rd LED on the front of the unit will blink.
Standby Power Mode (cont.) • Controls for Standby mode are in the Inst Setup > General menu. • Power Key Function • Standby gives the user the option of putting the unit into Standby when they press the Power key • On/Off will simply turn the unit off when the power key is pressed • Max Standby Time • Sets the amount of time the unit will remain in standby mode before shutting down.
A-Scan Measurement Mode Icons- UT Only • A-Scan measurement modes are part of the ClearWave™ package in Conventional UT mode on the EPOCH 1000. • The user can select from one of three A-Scan measurement modes: • Composite A-scan – Standard display mode from the EPOCH XT, this feature displays all A-scans acquired in between screen update rates (multiple A-scans when PRF > 60Hz) and overlays them together on the screen. • Max Amplitude – Analyzes acquired A-scans between display updates and displays only the A-scan with the highest gated amplitude reading. • Min Thickness – Analyzes acquired A-scans between display updates and displays only the A-scan with the minimum thickness reading.
A-Scan Measurement Mode Icons- UT Only (cont.) • An icon is now displayed on the home screen indicating which A-Scan measurement mode is active. • The A-Scan measurement mode is accessed using ClearWave > Ascan Mode. Composite Max Amplitude Min Thickness
New Digital Reading Measurements • The parameters below have now been added to the EPOCH 1000 Series as digital measurement readings: • A, B, and C AWS Measurements • Two new readings measuring amplitude height differences between gates 1 and 2 in dB units have also been added: • dBG1-2 and dBG2-1 • Example: • Gate1 echo = 80% • Gate2 echo = 40% • dBG1-2 = 6dB • These readings can be selected under Meas Setup > Reading Setup
Customize A-Scan Color • The user now has the ability to choose the color of the live A-Scan for both UT and PA modes. • To change the A-Scan color, select Display Setup > Color Setup. Color choices will display above the P-keys. UT Color Setup Menu PA Color Setup Menu
Customize Warning Curve Color • The user can now set the DAC/TVG and DGS warning (secondary) curves to be a different color from the main inspection curve in both UT and PA Modes. • To change the Secondary Curve Color, select Display Setup > Color Setup. Color choices will display above the P-keys. ASME-3 DAC Curve with Red Warning Curves
Additional Phased Array Color Palettes • There are now additional color palettes available for PA sector, linear, and C-scans to provide different color scales for use with varied applications. • To change the color palette • Select PA Display > Scan Palette (Depth Palette for depth C-Scans) • Or select Display Setup > Color Setup. Amplitude Palette ONDT Palette
Additional Phased Array Color Palettes (cont.) Alarm Palette Corrosion Palette Grey Scale Palette
