Screencasting A tool for a new generation.
What is screencasting? adigital recording of a computer screen’s output, often containing audio narration sometimes known as video screen capture
Why use Screencasting? Uses: • To capture a meeting, seminar or class when you want to save it or share it • To post for students who are absent due to short term or long term illnesses or who take educational trips • To include video lessons in e-classes • To capture samples of student work as they demonstrate proper procedures to solve a problems or make presentations. Starring SHS classrooms
Why use Screencasting? Uses: • The student who wants to take two singletons, scheduled at the same time, has the opportunity to stay current on both by splitting their time between the two and watching the on-line videos • An excellent study guide for those who chose to review the lessons before the test • Preparation for those who will eventually take an on-line course Starring SHS classrooms
What does a screencast look like? • Throughout the PowerPoint, you will find this symbol indicating a linked video
Creating a Screencast with Active Inspire • Open active-inspire • Choose the video camera tool • Minimize the tool bar (optional) • Move the icon to a corner of the screen • Press record • Choose the output folder • Name the file • Begin your presentation • Stop the recording when finished and name your file
Creating a Screencast with CamStudio • Open CamStudio • Choose the view and minimizeMinimize to the tool bar version • Move the icon to a corner of the screen • Press record • Begin your presentation • Stop the recording when finished and name your file • Choose the output folder • Name the file
At home with Windows media encoder. • With windows media encoder: • Open windows encoder • Choose New Session • Choose Capture Screen • Entire screen • Click on capture audio from default device • Next • Choose the file storage location • Next • High quality • Next • Next • Unclick begin when I click finish • Finish • Set up what you want to capture • Click Start encoding • When finished click Stop
Converting Files with AVC • Open AVC • To Set Output folder • Choose file • Set output folder • Navigate to the output folder • To add files to convert • Choose file • Add videos • Navigate to the video • Choose the conversation settings • Profile: flv • Frame Size: 640 x 480 • Choose Convert • Close when finished
Posting Files to MOODLE • Each wiki or website has different formats but they are also similar • Posting to MOODLE • Open the appropriate MOODLE page • Turn on editing • Scroll to the desired box • Choose to add a resource • Give the file a name • Choose to upload a file • Press upload • Select the desired file • Press choose • Set to view in a new window • Save and return to course
Posting Files to MOODLE • IF the files are too large: • Right click on the file in explorer • Choose send to compressed folder • Then upload OR Drop the file into windows movie maker and split it and save the parts as part 1 and part 2 etc.

Adding the camera tool to the toolbar • Go to main menu Choose view Choose customize
Search for camera tool Highlight and choose add Then press done
