  1. The Status of OSC In preparation for the 2004 ALICE Physics Data Challenge By Bjørn S. Nilsen The Ohio State University And The Ohio Supercomputing Center

  2. Outline • Hardware Status • Clusters • Storage • Software Status • Network • Outstanding Issues Presented By Bjorn S. Nilsen at the March 2004 Alice Offline Week

  3. Hardware StatusClusters • Itanium (ai64.osc.edu front end mck-login1.osc.edu) • 40 Alien job limit out of 296 cpus (presently set to 1?) • Cluster is very busy and expensive to run on. • Common data storage with i32 cluster. • AMD/P4 cluster (alice.osc.edu front end) • 40 Alien job limit out of 256 cpus (AMD 1.4) • Migration from AMD to p4 April • 512, 2.4GHz Intel P4 • Should support larger number of concurrent jobs Presented By Bjorn S. Nilsen at the March 2004 Alice Offline Week

  4. Hardware StatusStorage • IBM 3494 and 3584 tape libraries. • Additional frames/drives and tapes can easily be added • Investigating use of CASTOR • Installing IBM Storagetank system (same as CERN) • 30Tb of storage available (10 for SDD Test Beam data) • Total of 500Tb system • Migration form old system to new in progress • Will require changes to AliEn catalog • Otherwise similar file access Presented By Bjorn S. Nilsen at the March 2004 Alice Offline Week

  5. Software Status • I64 • AliEn 1.32.14 installed • gcc 2.96/3.2 & Intel 6.08.0, Globus 2.2.4 PBS 2.3.12 • I32 • AliEn 1.33.15 installed and Running • gcc 2.96/3.0.4 & Intel 6.08.0, Globus 2.2.4 PBS 2.3.12 • RFIO 5.2 installed but needs configuration • GridFTP installed Presented By Bjorn S. Nilsen at the March 2004 Alice Offline Week

  6. Network • Nothing new • CERN  Chicago Star-Tap • Chicago  Columbus Abilene • Columbus  OSC OARNet • Slowest link is OC12. • End-to-end performance characterization of link would be useful. Presented By Bjorn S. Nilsen at the March 2004 Alice Offline Week

  7. Outstanding issues • OSC-Itanium ALiEn queue needs updating • Jan Labanowski has left OSC. OSC support of Offline web pages has been dropped • SAN.FS/Storagetank installation will initially be for user home directories (50TB) • Larger SAN.FS file systems available in the future • Distributed storage tank may be a future feature to take advantage of • Need some assistance for configuring RFIO clients at OSC. Presented By Bjorn S. Nilsen at the March 2004 Alice Offline Week
