Today’s agenda • Greetings • Inverse Trig Functions • Quiz • Journal / HW • Clean-up
Next HW • Section 2-4: • Exercises 15-19. • Exercises 21-31 odd, 35, 39, 40, 42. • Star any problems where you were able to use the table of special sine/cosine values we made in class. • Due Friday, 10/8/2010.
Inverse trig functions • Using right-triangle trig definitions: • sin-1 x is the inverse of sine on a restricted domain of sine. • Read as “inverse sine of x” or “sine inverse of x”. • Never as “sine to the minus one of x”.
When to Use Inverse Trig Functions • Given: A right triangle, a side length, and an acute angle. • Want to find: other side lengths.
Journal • Journal entry #3 (hand in today): • Write several paragraphs that address the following questions about this week’s classes in a narrative style: • What did you do here? How did you use your time? What did you learn? • Were there any surprises this week? (Meaning, any events or solutions or discoveries you found surprising?) • What words / concepts were new to you this week? What do they mean? • What was good about this week’s classes for you? • What can you and I do better next week? • Do you have any other comments?
Classwork/HW • Section 2-4: • Exercises 15-19. • Exercises 21-31 odd, 35, 39, 40, 42. • Star any problems where you were able to use the table of special sine/cosine values we made in class. • Due Tuesday, 10/12. • Read Section 2-5 and answer the Reading Analysis questions. Then do (also from 2-5): • Q1-Q10. • Exercises 1-7 odd, 12, 13, and 20. • Due Wednesday, 10/13.
Clean-up / Reminders • Pick up all trash / items. • Push in chairs (at front and side tables). • See you tomorrow!
Example • Find the six trig functions of , if terminates in Quadrant III and sin = -2/3.
