Viking Expedition To Greenland TIMELINE: 982-985 Erik the Red names Greenland,, after being outlawed for three years on account of manslaughter in Iceland. 986 Southern Greenland, is settled by Erik the Red as he brings the first settlers from Iceland. 986-1000 More settlers arrive from Scandinavia and they gradually settle the Southwest coast of Greenland. The Norse population center around two major settlements, the Western and the Eastern. 1000 Leif Eriksson, son of Erik the Red, returns to Greenland from Norway, bringing along the first Christian missionary.
Leifsbudir • Leifsbudir , was a settlement founded by Leif Eriksson in 1000 or 1001 in what they called Vinland. • Later, 160 Greenlanders, including 16 women, established themselves there to find wood for their ships. • Leifsbudir is now believed by most scholars to have been located at L'Anse aux Meadows which is located in Newfoundland.
Viking Life • Vikings lived in filth and were disgusting. • Vikings skinned animals for their leather for their clothing and other things such as: Blankets. • But Vikings weren't savages. They lived in complex villages and towns.
Viking longships. • Longships were sea vessels made and used by the Vikings from the Nordic countries for trade, exploration, and warfare during the Viking Age.
