  1. Do Now: Combine the following simple sentences into complex sentences. • The library lost power on Friday. The library closed for the weekend. • I didn’t eat breakfast this morning. I was running late this morning. • I am not watching Riverdale every week. I am going to binge-watch Riverdale this summer.

  2. Refresh: • Complex sentences are made up of • An independent (main) clause • I am not watching Riverdale every week • And a dependent (subordinate) clause • Because I am going to binge-watch it this summer.

  3. Refresh • When the independent clause comes first, don’t use a comma: • Ex: The library closed for the weekend after it lost power on Friday. • When the dependent clause comes first, use a comma: • Ex: After the library lost power on Friday, it closed for the weekend.

  4. Please take out your Lieutenant Kotler Sheet Based on the character traits you wrote on the back, and the rest of the sheet you’ve completed, come up with a theme that fits
