  2. What is Computer Science? Who is a “computer scientist”? What do they do? Where do they work? How much do they make? What kind of future is in it?

  3. What is Computer Science? • Computer science (CS) spans the range from theory through programming to cutting-edge development of computing solutions. • The work of computer scientists falls into three categories: • designing and building software • developing effective ways to solve computing problems, such as storing information in databases, sending data over networks or providing new approaches to security problems • devising new and better ways of using computers and addressing particular challenges in areas such as robotics, computer vision, or digital forensics • Most computer science programs require some mathematical background.

  5. Stereotypical Computer Scientist: • Socially awkward? • Geek? • Nerd? • WoW player?

  6. Actual (future) Computer Scientists • Yeah, okay…a little nerdy – sometimes. • But overall, we’re pretty normal.
