Haryana - Granary of India • Mainly grain producing state. • Basmati Rice is the pride production of the State. • 86.3% land cultivatable, Cropping intensity 182.39%, 82.3% land stands irrigation facility provided. • Haryana Stands 3rd in Mushroom and fourth in flower production and 10th in Green (food/ vegetable) production.
About Us • Marketing Board was constituted in August, 1969 with an aim to create a strong and efficient marketing infrastructure by setting up modern markets for marketing Grain and Greens. • The primary objective was/is to set up a marketing infrastructure for better regulation of the purchase, sale, storage and processing of agricultural and Horticultural produce. • We have set up 106 principal market yards, 180 Sub yards and 178 Purchase Centers in the entire state leaving only 8 Km. distance from farm/field. • We are engaged in multifarious activities for farming community and rural development such as constructing / modernizing agricultural/horticultural marketing infrastructure, warehousing, cold storage, rural roads , rural stadiums, model villages and especially a cool chain ripening chambers/sorting grading and Packing Facilities throughout the state.
About Us - Contd.. • We are setting up a Terminal Market in National Capital Region at Gannaur (Distt. Sonepat) on the NH-I about 40 Km. from Delhi on a area of 500 acres with an estimated cost of Rs. 500 crore for which land stands almost acquired. • We are setting up Timber Market at Yamuna Nagar, Rohtak and Sonepat. • We are earning approx Rs. 400 crores per annum, which is likely to increase at the pace of 20-30% annually.

Horticulture .. contd… • Main vegetable crops Potato, Onion, Tomato, Cauliflower, Carrots, cucurbits, Mushroom, Leafy , Root Vegetables and Babycorn – Main Fruits are Kinnow, Mango, Guava, Ber, Aonla. • About 39,132 hectares land is under orchards like malta, Kinnow, mausami, ber (Indian Jujube), Guava and Mangoes - Plantation in 12,000 Ha made during last 3 years. • About 3,57,000 Hectares of land is under Horticulture production which is around 5.5% of the total cultivable area in Haryana. • In country, the Haryana’s share in Fruit & vegetable production is 3.5% * Source Horticulture Department

Contract Farming introduced in the state by amending the PAPM Act in aug,2007 Four Companies , Namely have taken up the contract farming :- 1. M/S SKOL Brewaries Pvt.Ltd. : 2300 Acres. 2. HAFED, Panchkula. : 6000 Acres 3. United Brewaries Pvt. Ltd.Patiala.:10000 Acres 4. M/S Techno Agri. Sciences. : Nil (In Process) • Export Promotion Policy :- The Board has launched export promotion policy which seeks to provide technical and financial assistance to the farmers for upgrading the quality of produce and to take up value addition activities. It promotes formation of grower’s groups/ societies for this purposes. An Export Promotion Council is also proposed to be created. • Farmer’s Marketing Assistance Scheme :- Scheme has been formulated recently to adopt practices for value addition. Under this scheme ,assistance for grading/sorting and packing material and transportation is provided. • Setting-up of Lab Facilities:- In order to increase competitiveness of the grower’s produce, a network of labs for quality testing certification is being created through out the State. • Haryana Farmers are being sponsored to different Countries like China and Israil for having better marketing awareness. ….Contd.. 5. Assisting Farmers to bring more area under horticulture crops with cluster approach.. 6. Encouraging farmers to take advantage of NHM subsidies for setting up Orchards & plantation, Nurseries, green houses &plastic tunnels, Community tanks & micro irrigation pack houses and cold storage. 7. Setting up post harvest management solutions an quality testing labs. 8. Setting up of Agri-business information centers, Agri clinics and Plant health clinics. 9. Acquainting farmers with the latest technologies. 10. Developing horticulture crops with latest high yielding varieties – Kinnow, Potatoes. 11. Optimizing irrigation water usage through drip irrigation. 12. Pehowa(Distt. Kurukshetra) : It is situated on the Divine Saraswati river having abundant ground water which makes it the best tubewell irrigated area. Presently, wheat, rice and potatoes are grown here and diversification is possible through such facilities. Indri(Distt Karnal) : This is most fertile area of the state and a lot of tomatoes are grown here and it can emerge as a tomato hub along with other horticultural crops. It is situated on NH1. Bhiwani : Partly irrigated and partly barren land, we can exploit this district for organic horticulture farming. A lot of tomatoes and cucurbits are grown in this district. It is well connected to Delhi. Ideally suited for drip irrigation through tanks as envisaged under N.H.M. projects. Rewari : It is situated within NCR region and it is gateway to Rajasthan & Delhi and has high potential of growth of horticulture production and access to consumption market such as Gurgaon and Delhi. Sirsa : District Sirsa is known for its citrus fruits such as Kinnow and Malta, which are being grown there since 1950’s. NHM has given special incentive to district for citrus promotion and most of the state’s Kinnow is grown here. It is a good vegetable producing area. Fatehabad : A highly fertile district and has high potential for horticulture growth and is situated on NH10. Bahadurgarh ( Distt. Jhajjar) : This town is part of National capital region and most of the farmers are already engaged in vegetable production and they are going to Delhi for its sale. Kurukshetra : The city is well connected to the state and national capital. The land is highly fertile and lot of vegetables & potatoes are grown here. Badal (Distt. Bhiwani) : This is also a major producing area of tomatoes and the soil condition of the area allows it to become the best for horticulture production along with citrus cultivation. Yamunanagar : This is a mango specific hub to cater to the demands of mango growers. Tohana (Distt. Fatehabad) : A highly fertile area and lot of vegetables are grown here and is well connected to Delhi & Punjab through rail and road network. Gohana (Distt. Sonepat) : It is known for its horticulture production and Safal market is already sourcing the vegetables from this area. It is situated within the NCR region Farukh Nagar (Distt.
