Safety study presentation • Project Location & Description • Tallmadge Road Corridor • Parliament Drive to Sunnybrook Road • Distance – 1.1 Miles • Approximate ADT – • Opening Year 2019 – 15,940 • Certified Traffic Obtained & Used for Analysis (Certified at 0% Per Year Growth)
Safety study presentation POR – Tallmadge Road Corridor Study Area
SAFETY STUDY PRESENTATION • Regional Priority • The Congestion Management Process Study published by AMATS in July 2012 lists Congestion Reduction Strategies for various intersections. Listed below is the strategy for the study corridor: • I-76 / Tallmadge Road / Mogadore Road Interchange – Reconfigure Interchange. • This is the highest crash corridor in Portage County (80 Crashes). Next Closest area is the State Route 59 corridor near the State Route 261 intersection (68 crashes).
SAFETY STUDY PRESENTATION • Crash Analysis Summary • 80 Crashes Reported in Study Area from 2010 – 2012 • 43 Rear-end • 10 Angle • 8 Left Turn • 7 Sideswipe - Passing • 5 Fixed Object • 4 Other Non-Collision • 3 Sideswipe – Meeting *Note the High Number of Rear-End Crashes
SAFETY STUDY PRESENTATION • Crash Analysis • Much Higher than Average Rear-End Crashes • Inefficient Cluster Signal Operation at I-76 WB Exit Ramp / Mogadore Road / Tallmadge Road Intersection • Non-Traditional Interchange Geometrics at I-76 / Tallmadge Road Interchange • Conclusion – Congestion Related Crashes Resulting from Inefficient Operations in Study Area

SAFETY STUDY PRESENTATION • PROPOSED DEVELOPMENT
SAFETY STUDY PRESENTATION • PROPOSED DEVELOPMENT Developable Land: 6 Acres Site Trips: 500 Daily Trips
SAFETY STUDY PRESENTATION • PROPOSED DEVELOPMENT Developable Land: 127 Acres Site Trips: 15,810Daily Trips
SAFETY STUDY PRESENTATION • PROPOSED DEVELOPMENT Developable Land: 48 Acres Site Trips: 2,820 Daily Trips
SAFETY STUDY PRESENTATION • PROPOSED DEVELOPMENT Developable Land: 72 Acres Site Trips: 3,960 Daily Trips
SAFETY STUDY PRESENTATION • PROPOSED DEVELOPMENT Total Developable Acres: 253 Acres Total Site Trips: 23,090 Trips
SAFETY STUDY PRESENTATION Proposed Countermeasures • Eliminate both Mogadore Road junctions with the I-76 Exit Ramps to Remove the Mogadore Road / Ramp Overlap Sections • Relocate / Reconstruction Mogadore Road (West) to tie into Existing East End Welding • Cul-de-Sac Mogadore Road (East) and Reroute all Traffic to Sunnybrook Drive • Reconstruct the Traffic Signal at the Reconfiguration Intersection of Tallmadge Road / I-76 WB Ramps. • Construct a Traffic Signal at the Newly Created Intersection of Tallmadge Road / Mogadore Road • Convert the I-76 / Tallmadge Road Interchange from a Tradition Diamond Interchange Into a Diverging Diamond Interchange • Interconnect the Traffic Signals Along the Tallmadge Road Corridor to Form a Coordinated Signal System
SAFETY STUDY PRESENTATION Proposed improvement
SAFETY STUDY PRESENTATION • Vacant property on SE Corner of Tallmadge Road / I-76 EB intersection
SAFETY STUDY PRESENTATION Synchro Models • Improved Interchange (Traditional) • DDI Interchange
SAFETY STUDY PRESENTATION Other Diverging Diamond Interchanges • I-270 / Roberts Road Interchange in Columbus, Ohio • Opened in Fall of 2013 • Seven Total Crashes Between October 26th and December 31st, 2013 • S.R. 4 / U.S. 68 Interchange in Lexington, Kentucky • Opened in Fall of 2011 • Two Years Before Opening vs. Two Years After Comparison: • 47.8% Reduction in Total Crashes at Interchange • 60.9% Reduction in Injury Crashes at Interchange
