The Technology Assessment Framework • A tool for national governments, local governments, donors, private sector….. • Helps assess if a technology is appropriate or not • Helps to analyse, plan and monitor introduction process • Involves all relevant stakeholders in different phases of assessment process • Triggers direct exchange between sector actors
The Technology Assessment Framework • First stage: • Selection of of target area and of key actors, fieldwork to collect data for screening on “need” and “applicability” • Second stage Fieldwork for assessment indicators: • Financial • Social • Environmental • Legal/institutional • Knowledge/skills • Technology Perspectives of: -User/Buyer -Producer/Provider -Regulator/Supervisor
The Technology Assessment Framework • Third stage: • Scoring workshop produces profile based on set of guided questions • Scores and profile developed in group workshop, assuring higher transparency of result • Profile indicates key areas of risks and potential improvements of technology and introduction process • TAF: final TAF Result Sheet with comprehensive interpretation and specific recommendation
TAF testing • Several rounds of testing on a variety of WASH technologies in all three countries • Includes UDDTs in Uganda
