Lens • F-stop • f1.4, f2, f2.8, f4, f5.6, f8, f11, f16, f22 • How much light the lens lets in • Smaller the number, brighter • Fast lens/Slow lens
Lens 2. Focal length • 10mm, 50mm, 200mm • Measure of magnifying power of a lens • Smaller – wider/larger – more telephoto • Wide-angle/Telephoto lens • Zoom lenses can change focal length.
Tripod Basic components • Tripod head • Quick release plate • Tripod legs • Spreader
When you shoot: To-do’s: • Level the tripod • White-balance • Exposure • Focus
White balance Indoor light • Orange • Color temperature of studio light • 3200K (kelvin) • Tungsten balanced Daylight • Blue • Color temperature of exterior production light • 5600K – daylight at noon • Daylight balanced
White-balance How? • Hold a sheet of white paper. • Fill the frame with the white object (at least 85% of the frame).
Exposure To control the brightness of the image • Zebras show overexposed areas. • Some zebras are good (over 80%). In a close-up of a face, you may have zebras on: • Forehead • Cheeks • Nose
Focus • How? • Zoom in all the way, focus, and zoom out.
Depth of Field Area that is in focus Two factors decide the depth of field: • Focal length • More telephoto – shallower depth of field • F-stop • Smaller F-stop number (more light) – shallower depth of field
Rack Focus/Focus Pull • To pull/shift focus from one object to another in the same shot.
