Death Zone • The majority of children injured or killed in pupil transportation are not injured or killed on the bus, but outside the bus. • Most are struck by motorists who fail to stop for the flashing red lights and extended stop signs. • The “Death Zone” is the area immediately in front of and around the bus.

Alabama’s NEW School Bus Stop Law (Effective October 1, 2006) • “Thedriver of a vehicle upon meeting or overtaking from either direction any school bus which has stopped for the purpose of receiving or discharging any school children on a highway, on a roadway, on school property, or upon a private road shall bring the vehicle to a complete stop before reaching the school bus…”

  9. Requirements to Legally Drive a Church or School Bus • You will not be able to drive a church bus or school bus with a standard “Class D” driver license. • To legally drive a passenger bus, you must pass the CDL test and have a “P” and “S” endorsement.
