Floor Hockey. History. Originally evolved as an adaptation of ice hockey for play on the streets. 1917 National Hockey League was founded in Canada and formed original floor hockey rules. The sport gained popularity in Europe in the late 1970’s.

History • Originally evolved as an adaptation of ice hockey for play on the streets. • 1917 National Hockey League was founded in Canada and formed original floor hockey rules. • The sport gained popularity in Europe in the late 1970’s. • The first organized US tournament was held in 1976 in Michigan.

  3. Etiquette • Appropriate sporting behavior • Fair Play • Teamwork • Involvement from all participants • Body Contact • Positive Attitudes

  4. Game Play • Non- contact sport • Object of the game is to hit the puck into the opponent’s goal. • The game begins with a face-off at the middle of the centerline ; face-off also begins plat after a goal is scored. • Sticks can not be carried above the waist or used above the knees when playing the puck.

  5. Game Play continued • The offense and defense battle for control of the puck, trying to advance it to the opponent’s goal to score. • Players cannot kick it into the goal- results in a lose of possession. • Players may bring the puck back down to the floor from the air with their hands but may not hold, pass, or throw it. • Offensive players can not be in the opponents goal box- only defensive players and their own goalie.

  6. Penalties- 2 minutes! • Swinging or slapping at the puck or other sticks. • Slashing/Body-checking • Tripping • Holding • Roughing • High sticking • Catching the puck with hand

  7. Skills & Playing Techniques • Passing: forehand backhand • Receiving passes: soft touch • Shooting: push pass and wrist shot • Stick Handling: using both sides of the stick • Defense/ Goaltending: use stick to poke or sweep puck away

  8. Player Positions Defense- 4. Goalie 5. a guard 6. a guard Offense- 1. a center 2. a left wing 3. a right wing
