  2. From Aristocracy to Democracy • Aristocracy – a government controlled by the wealthy and privileged families • Democracy- a government run by the people; citizens are given the right to vote

  3. Ancient Athens vs. U.S.A Athens: USA Direct Democracy: A government in which people vote to make their own rules and laws Representative Democracy: A government in which people vote for representatives. The representatives make rules and laws that govern themselves and the people.
