Location • The Anasazi lived in the southwestern United States. It now called the Four Corners. Present day states are Utah, Colorado, Arizona and New Mexico.
The Anasazi, they farmed corn, pumpkins, squash and beans. The dry heat did not stop the Anasazi from growing their crops. They dug trenches to water their crops and they were the first to use the irrigation system. Food
The Anasazi were called “Cliff Dwellers”, because they built houses on the side of mountains. They built apartments on top of mesas. A Kiva is a special room in their house that holds religious ceremonies where only men can enter. Housing
Art • The anasazi wove baskets to carry food and water. They would make rock art on the side of their houses. A lady named Nampeyo found a way to dig up clay to make pottery. She used plants to make her colors for the pottery.
Tools • A spear thrower was used for hunting. It was a piece of wood about a meter long with a leather hand grip at the end. The bow and arrow was used for hunting. The bow was made of a flexible wood.
Time period • Anasazi’s lived from 100 B.C. to 1300 A.D. They were called the “Ancient People”, because they lived a long time ago. Their first homes were called pueblos.
Religion • Anasazi had many nature gods. Some of the gods were earth mother, sun god, and rain god. Their religious ceremonies were in Kivas (underground rooms).
Clothing • They wove cotton into shirts, robes, kilts, and socks. They wore moccasins, sandals, and snowshoes made from yucca fibers. Woman wore necklaces, bracelets, earrings, and pins made from bones, wood, and shells.
Trade • They mostly traded with different Anasazi’s, from Colorado to Nevada. They traveled mostly by foot. Sea shells, parrots, copper bells, and cotton were traded locally.
Today • Anasazi had many different things that we use now days : moccasins , sandals, pottery, bow and spears.
