European Nautical Platform: Enhancing Safety & Expertise in Ports

A collaboration among 5 European organizations to improve safety and expertise in nautical operations. Aimed at captains, pilots, tug operators, boatmen, and harbor masters, the platform offers best practices, training, and exchange of knowledge. Targeting port stakeholders and the European Commission, the platform seeks to establish European standards and cultivate nautical expertise.

  2. How did it start? ► 5 independent European organisations; CESMA, EMPA, ETA, EBA, EHMC ► Captains, Pilots, Tug operators, Boatmen, Harbour Masters ► End 2010; programme of regular professional contacts agreed

  3. Reasons for co-operation I: ► Combining forces ► Improving co-operation ► Strong nautical expert group ► p2b - not addressed yet ► Awareness for importance of safety

  4. Reasons for co-operation II: ► Calling/leaving a port is a process ► Organising self balancing system ► No regulations by non-experts ► Involvement of nautical experts in maritime policies ► Strong image of the professions ► Training and education
