Further development Barry Mizen said: “Why were we so interested in where he [Jake] spends the next 15 years? Why did we not have that much interest in the first 20 years? I can’t help feeling that if we were more interested in the first 20 years of Jake’s life, rather than where he was going to spend the next 20 then my son could well still be alive.” In small groups spend 5 minutes on each question and write notes in your booklet. Get ready to feed back your thoughts to the class. • Who is the ‘we’ that Barry talks about in the first sentence? • Who could have shown more interest in Jake’s childhood, and how could they have done so? • Why does Barry think people showing interest in Jake’s life could have prevented Jimmy’s murder? | | Lesson 3 A cycle of forgiveness 7
