What is a Group? • Generally same Species • Lowest common denominator • Not Individually Identifiable • Wish to manage as one • Receives a single GAN
What is a Colony? • Too many to count/impact on inventory • Honeybees, fire ants • One entity of many/fragments • Corals • Set inventory count in Institution Preferences • Check box in Census grid • Indicate count in Tax/Sex/Coll grid
What is Tracking? • No Tracking • Simple census numbers • Sex Type • Life Stage • Sex Type and Life Stage • Can change with each census • Not recommended
GROUPS – True Census • Group Count Reset • Must use a True Census to change tracking • Census is used by the application for calculations for subsequent group numbers • Births/Acquisitions/Merges will increase the number count • Deaths/Dispositions/Splits will decrease the number count • Nothing prior will affect this census count • Number count will be calculated from the previous census
GROUPS – Full versus Partial Transactions • Full • Happens to entire group • Initial acquisition of the group • Final disposition of the group • Partial • Happens to part of the group • Add members • Births/Acquisitions • Merge • Remove members • Deaths/Dispositions • Split
GROUPS – Open or Closed • Open • Can still perform actions • Will display in report/grid as 0.0.0 • Status is “Open” • Medical and Genetic tracking lost • Closed • Cannot perform any actions • Will not display in reports/grid for time frame post Closing • Status is “Closed Out”
