Technology Centre ASCR • National Information Centre for European Research • EU Framework Programmes, COST, EUREKA ... • Stimulation of Czech participation in the EU FPs • Monitoring and evaluation of Czech participation in the EU FPsfor government of the Czech Republic • Coordination of the National Information Network for Research (NINET) • Business Support andTechnology Transfer • Enterprise Europe Network – transnational Technology Transfer • Direct cooperation with Czech industry, particularly SMEs - product and technology innovation • Promotion of R&D results on the market • IPR consultancy

Technology Centre ASCR • Strategic Studies • Analytical and prognostic studies for the state administration (R&D, innovation, EU Structural Funds) • Coordination of national foresight projects • Development of the Foresight Programme in the Czech Republic • Identification of national research priorities • Intensive cooperation with UNIDO (international courses on foresight) • Czech Liaison Office for R&D (CZELO) • Based in Brussels – an interface between Czech and EU research • Business Incubation (BIC Member) • Focused on small technology-intensive businesses • Areas: alternative energy, environmental technology, materials, ICT ... • Incubator in operation since 2008 with a total floor space 4000 sqm

History of Technology Transfer Unit Technology Transfer Unit established in 1997 Transferred into Business Support and Technology Transfer Unit in 2010 History of Key Projects: FEMIRC Czech Republic (Fellow Member to Innovation Relay Centres) - January 1997 till June 2000 CIRC - Czech Innovation Relay Centre (CIRC I, II. and III.)July 2000 till March 2008 OPET Czech Republic – Pan-European project focused on energy issues: January 1998 till May 2002 CeTT - Centre for Technology Transfer (Prague’s regional project)March 2006 till June 2008 Enterprise Europe Network (coordinator in the Czech Republic)Module B (innovations & technology transfer)and Module C (RTD support): April 2008 till December 2013

Enterprise Europe Network Enterprise Europe Network’ mission is to increase the productivity and competitiveness of European scienceand industry One Network as a joint initiative supporting SME’s in Europe: - Innovation Relay Centres Network (IRC) • Euro Info Centres Network (EIC) Common initiative:Enterprise Europe Network (NO WRONG DOOR) concept executed by consolidation of the previous services for SME’s – e.g. module B is based on former IRC services and is present in all partner’s organisations

Innovation and Technology Transfer Activities • Access to EEN Network Database: offers and requests of innovative technologies • Helping SME’s to create their technology offer or request • Partner’s search for applicants interested in technology implementation or technology selling • Assessment of client’s technology ability to offer or purchase technology or innovative solution • Co-organization of brokerage events and company missions • Information about events in clients’ business field - brokerages etc. • Technology watch (AMT), information about R&D results • Assistance during negotiation, co-organizing meetings between partners

Educational and PromotionalActivities • Organization conferences, seminars, round-tables, workshops • Excursions abroad for SME’s • (Student’s internships in SME’s) • Publication activities: • Technology-focused information leaflets • IPR brochures for R&D and SME staff • Articles in technology-focused magazines

Business Support and RTD Activities • Technology-focused workshops • Clusters and clustering support • Science parks and business incubators activities promotion and cooperation with • FP7 and Structural funds consultations and information dissemination • Financing-related consultations and co-operation with business angels, venture capital etc. • IPR strategy consulting

Our TT experience from CR • „Top“ ASCR institutes (IOCB, Macromolecular …) have own licensing units with long-term (foreign) relationships • Rest of ASCR institutes lack behind • ASCR research often focused on fundamental or theoretical research • Although Universities established TT Offices, there are no significant results yet • Universities focusing more on direct cooperation with SME’s (relationships from past) • Patent funding support established, but not for Prague-based institutions (= 60% of Czech research) • Opportunity: Uni & SME’s collaboration through Structural funds EU and national funding schemes • Opportunity: FP7 and CIP programmes

  13. Our TT experience from CR • Missing marketing research and sales experience (essential for successful market applications) • Knowing trends on the market • Reasonable evaluation of own inventions („level“ of competition, market value of invention) • Missing support of „proof-of-concept“ • Missing funding support (seed capital, venture capital) • Training of TT people
