1. The Battle Of Vimy Ridge The battle took place from April 9 to April 12, 1917. Zero Hour was 05:30. Vimy Ridge was the key to the German line. No Man’s land was about 100 yards in length. The battle was led by Commander Arthur Currie. There was roughly 20, 000 Canadian troops involved in the battle. The Vimy Ridge Memorial Completed in 1936

B: Each soldier had a map of the area. C: Large models were created to allow the soldiers to see what had to be done. D: A light railway system was created to move troops and supplies rapidly to the front lines. E: The soldiers practice what they were supposed to do multiple times so they were thoroughly prepared. F: A “Creeping Barrage” was created known as the “Vimy Glide”. A creeping barrage meant that the soldiers would advance 100 yards every 3 minutes protected by artillery in front of them.

8. The Significance Of The Battle of Vimy Ridge Canada suffered 10, 000 casualties and 3600 soldiers died in the battle. This was the largest victory for the Triple Entente since the outbreak of the war. The victory was seen as the true birth of Canada and gave Canadian’s a sense of national pride and identity. Other countries finally gave Canada the respect we deserved!
