Legacy Database Registration and Rationalization • A datacall initiative similar to the FAM applications registration accomplished using DADMS • Major steps • DONCIO will be initiating this registration process on 1 Dec 2005 • Database registration -- Steps 1-4 of the process (Fully supported by DADMS); Scope includes databases associated with FAM Approved and AWR applications only • Database rationalization – Steps 5-7 of the process (not fully implemented in DADMS); Products include Authoritative Data Sources, and Functional Area Data Architectures • Current status • FDM Council has refined registration steps • DADMS has fully implemented Steps 1-4 of the FDM process • Issues/Concerns/Risks • DART (GOTS tool) used during Steps 5-7 needs updating (requires work by DADMS staff) • Prospect of “yet another datacall” has some Functional Area communities concerned • Marine Corp participation in FDM process development has been nominal

DON Implementation Plan for DoDD 8320.2, Net-Centric Data Strategy • Enterprise-level guidance that defines the DON approach to implementing the Data Strategy • Major steps: • Outline of DON Implementation Plan – Nov 05 • Solicitation/Assignment of SMEs as chapter leads and contributors – Nov 05 • Writer’s team workshops – Nov 05 – Mar 06 • Frequency? Locations? Dates? • Stakeholder review – Mar/Apr 06 • Formal Staffing and release -- Apr/May 06 • Current status: • Draft charter being drafted by FDM Council • Issues/Concerns/Risks • FDM and BSC interest is high • FORCEnet interest is also high • SMEs are volunteers and their time is already heavily taxed

Functional Data Managers’ DADMS Users’ Guide • An online, step-by-step guide to registering databases in DADMS • Major steps • Drafted by a sub-team of the FDM Council • Review in progress by full FDM Council • Hosting on DADMS site – Dec 2005 • Current status • Final review and revisions by FDM Council • Issues/Concerns/Risks • Length and size of document preclude hardcopy (200+ pages and 12+ Mb) • Ability of DADMS to host as interactive guide

Functional Data Managers’ Process Guide • Enterprise-level, common processes used by the FDMs to perform their roles and responsibilities as assigned in the SECNAVINST 5000.36A • Major steps • Draft by a sub-team of the FDM Council • Review by full FDM Council and Stakeholders • Review and release by DONCIO • Current status • Tentative kickoff – Jan/Feb 06 • Issues/Concerns/Risks • Pro: Closely related to Implementation Plan for Data Strategy • Pro: Expands the FDM focus beyond current database registration role • Con: Competing with other FDM initiatives for time/attention

XML Developers’ Guide • Enterprise-level guidance for use by System Developers involved in the use of XML (and Web Services, and SOA) technologies; Supplements the technical guidance provided in the DON XML NDR • Major steps • Draft by a sub-team of the XML Business Standards Council (BSC) • Review by BSC and Stakeholders • Review and release by DONCIO • Current status • Tentative kickoff – Feb/Mar 06 • Issues/Concerns/Risks • Pro: Closely related to Implementation Plan for Data Strategy • Pro: Expands the BSC focus beyond current XML schema registration role • Con: Competing with other BSC initiatives for time/attention
