Welcome toBoulder City Nevada EDSGN 100 Hydrogen Fuel City Group 5 Stephen Ulisny, Neil Arias, Curtis Covelli, Sebastian Reigber
What we’ll be talking about… • Design Task • Background • Specs • Production • Transportation • Source of Power • Storage • Best Solution • Flow Chart • Prototype • Cost Analysis • Conclusion • Questions
Our Mission • Standardized fueling station for a H2 city • Supply the transportation network with H2 fuel using renewable resources
Where we’ll be stationed… • Boulder City, Nevada–25 miles SE of Las Vegas • Located about 6 miles from the Hoover Dam and 5 miles from the Boulder City Landfill • Population: 16,840 • Requires about 9,000kg of H2 a day to meet transport needs
In a perfect world… • Safe • Sustainable • 350 BAR and 700 BAR for passenger and commercial vehicles. • HCNG containing up to 30% hydrogen at 250 BAR • 2 stations to meet the city needs with 6 pumps at each station
How will we produce it? • Electrolysis • Water • Large energy cost • Urine • Urine breaks down • Microbial • Not developed • Molten Carbonate Fuel Cell • Breaks Down • Steam Biomethane • Costly
How to get it to the station • Trucks • Constant Refill • Pipes • Costly • Produced on Site • Need of space • Produced at House • Not realistic
Storage/Distribution • Liquid • Expensive • Gas • Storage • Produced Right Before Use • Cant keep up with demand
Source of Power • Solar • Lack of Space • Wind • Lack of Space • Coal • Not Renewable • Nuclear • Expensive • Hydroelectric • Not Enough Power • Methane Waste • Abundance of CH4
Our best options… • Production • Steam Methane Reforming • Transportation • Trucks-H2 • Piping-CH4 • Storage • Liquid • Source of Power • Methane

The initial Cost… • Steam Methane Reformer -> $20,000,000 + • Pipelines -> $10,000,000 + • Cost of Stations -> $17,324,000 • Total Cost of System -> $57,324,000
Profit Per Day • Sell 350 and 700 bar at 4$ a kg ->$30,400 per day • Sell HCNG at 5$ a kg -> $37,500 per day • Cost to pump -> $40,000 per day • 50 employees to run system -> $7,000 per day • Nitrogen -> $5,000 per day • Methane -> $2,000 per day • Total Profit -> $13,900 per day • Yearly Profit -> $5,073,500 a year
Paving the way for the future • The system will be paid off in a little over 11 years • This system is replica table around most cities that have landfills in the vicinity • We could sell hydrogen for other city needs
