The History of Yum! • Yum! Was created on October 7th, 1997 as an independent corporation. • Initially many of the brands under control of Yum! Were actually apart of the PepsiCo. Yum! Was essentially created to alleviate Pepsi’s financial obligations towards the brands it had formerly owned like Taco Bell, KFC, and Pizza Hut. • Yum! Is now a publically held company. Products and Brands… • The big three… • Taco Bell: serves “Mexican-style cuisine” like tacos, burritos, nachos, etc. • KFC: serves southern style food like fried chicken, biscuits, mashed potatos and gravy. • Pizza Hut: serves “Italian-American style food,” which primarily consists of Pizza and Pizza variations. Recent News about Yum! • Yum! was recently ranked by several leading magazines as the top place to work within the fast-food industry. • Yum! was considered by fortune magazine as the top place for minorities to work. • Yum! has had several problems with the sanitary conditions of its restaurants in the northeast U.S. There was a rat problem in a NYC KFC as of a few weeks ago and in late 2006 an outbreak of E Coli. occurred within several taco bells. Other Facts about Yum! • Their base of operations is in the U.S. though they cater to many other countries. • They are closely tied to the PepsiCo.
