BenQ led in 16ms market, (FP767) forced everyone in the playground follows new standard in 2003. BenQ ahead in 12ms market, (FP71G, FP71E) Visual effect of LCD MNT close to CRT level in 2004. BenQ speed up in 8ms market, (FP71G+,71E+) Astonishing performance attract gamers Always room for improvement!! BenQ acted as leader in AMA Technology introduced on 17” and 19” LCD monitor to improved GTG (Gray to Gray) response time to be 5ms~8ms GTG. Image ghosting and lagging becomes history!!
How AMA Technology Benefits? No ghosting and lagging in DVD viewing, gaming and web browsing
How AMA Technology Benefits? AMA Off AMA On No Ghosting Ghosting No ghosting and lagging in DVD viewing.
Ghost, Tree looks shaky No ghost, Tree looks clearer How AMA Technology Benefits? AMA On AMA Off No ghosting and lagging in gaming.
How AMA Technology Benefits? AMA Off AMA On Shadows by the edge of Christmas tree Clear and vivid image No ghosting and lagging in animation greeting card
What is Gray-to-Gray response time? Comparing to on/off response time which indicates only the response time between black and white, gray-to-gray response time represents the response time within all colors.
What is Gray to Gray response time? On/off response time: The response time currently claimed in the market is on/off response time which only improves the image in black and white. Below example shows the improvement between on/off 12ms panel and 8ms panel On/off 12 ms v.s. On/off 8ms
What is Gray to Gray response time? On/off response time: The image performance in a on/off 12ms response time monitor is not good. Ghost and lagging still can be seen easily on 12ms LCD
What is Gray to Gray response time? With AMA technology, BenQ improve the gray to gray response time to average 8ms (even lower), the image quality is better than ever. On/Off 8ms On/Off 25ms GTG 8ms
What is AMA?Advanced Motion Accelerator By giving higher voltage to liquid crystal, BenQ improve the GTG (Gray to Gray) response time and image became more clear and vivid.
What is AMA? • User can see the image after liquid crystal change it’s direction • Given greater voltage, liquid crystal could turn faster and user could see the image earlier no ghosting and lagging shown in screen Backlight Liquid Crystal User Before the liquid crystal turned, user can not see the image Backlight After the liquid crystal turned, user can see the image
What is Gray level? • There are 256 gray levels in a 8 bit panel. 28=256 • There are gray levels in all colors. Examples: Gray Level
What is Gray-to-Gray response time? • We measure the response time between each level. From 0 level to 16, from 0 level to 32 and so on. The number could be filled in the table below. • The traditional on/off response time shows only the 0 to 255 level. For example, when vendor claims that the panel is on/off 12ms, he measures only the 0 level to 255 level, 8ms (tr), and 255 level to 0 level, 4ms (tf). We mark the response time of 0 to 16, 0 to 32, …, 0 to 255 and so on in the following page.
What is Gray-to-Gray response time? • We make a chart of gray-to-gray response time. The chart would be like the example showing below. The response time is high in gray levels. Example: TN 12ms panel response time chart How to read the chart? • The Y-axis shows the response time. • The other two axis show the gray level. • The color bar shows the response time from one gray level to another. ms • What the chart tells us? • The on/off response time is 12ms (10+2). That is the 0 to 255 level response time plus 255 to 0 level response time • RS of the rest of the gray levels are much larger than on/off. Target Level Start Level
The difference between CRT and LCD No Blur CRT Blur LCD • For CRT, the electric beam turns on and off is just like lamp light to turn on and off without time lag. The image is clear. • For LCD, it takes a little time to turn cell from current angle to another angle in order to show different gray level. The image is therefore, not clear enough.
AMA Technology We give more voltage to liquid crystal and it reached tart brightness earlier than original one
The performance of AMA Example: On/Off 25ms panel ms ms Start level Target level Start level Target level Without AMA: Ave. 50ms With AMA: Ave. 8ms
