Soldier/Unit Responsibility • Soldiers are required to maintain medical/dental readiness standards (AR 40-501 10-13a.). • Soldiers identified as Class 3 have 90 days to correct the deficiency (MN Dental Readiness Guidance dated 27 AUG 2012). • Units must counsel the Soldiers using the dental DA Form 4856 immediately following identification.
Identifying Class 3 • Soldiers are given a Dental Class 3 when a military dental event identifies issues that may result in a dental emergency within the next 12 months. (Military provider or LHI event). • They are coded in DENCLASS and MEDPROS as DRC 3. • State staff runs monthly DRC 3 and DRC 4 Reports and notifies Unit. Unit enters Class 3 Soldiers into the State Dental Tracker.
Treatment Options • Receive care at their own expense. • Enroll in Tricare Dental Program through MetLife and receive care at reduced rate. • Premiums are $10.36/mo • Maximum coverage is $1300.00/yr (01MAY – 30APR) • If eligible – receive care using ASRDRS funding.
Eligibility for ASRDRS • Must be in “Good Standing.” • Soldier cannot have any AWOLS or more than 4 excused absences in past 12 months. • No Administrative or AFCOS flags. • No pending adverse actions. • Is not AGR/ADOS/Title 10. • Not covered by private insurance at 100% coverage. (ASRDRS funding is always secondary/last to pay)
ASRDRS Process • State representative types Exam Authorization. • Soldier goes to dentist of his/her choosing to get an exam and estimate for treatment. • Exam covers cursory exam and x-rays. It does not cover cleanings. • Once Soldier has an estimate, State representative types authorization based on what can be authorized (compares SF 603 with estimate). • Soldier has 90 days to complete authorized treatment before authorization expires.
Clearing Class 3 • Complete treatment and have civilian dentist fill out DD Form 2813 showing Class 1 or Class 2. • Unit uploads 2813 into State Dental Tracker and State Admin reviews and uploads good 2813s into DENCLASS to clear Soldier. • Complete treatment and attend Military Dental Event to receive a new military dental exam showing Class 1 or Class 2.
