Implementing DDIEditor in the Danish Data Archive - Demonstration and gained experience Part of session: Recent Developments in the DDI Implementation Landscape IIINanna Floor Clausen, Danish Data Archive
Overview • A short historical background • Software used in development of editor • Presentation of editor • Implementation and users – so far • Final implementation – what is missing?
Historical background • Definition of DDI3 • Need for tools to make it useable • Establishment of (informal) tools group • Tools group lacked active support • Today institutions develop their own tools
Software in DDA editor • Java • Eclipse Rich Client Platform • Oracle Berkeley DB XML • Database environment
Presentation of editor • Workflow: • Creation of study information stored in study database • Production of study description • Documentation in SPSS • Questionnaire written using wiki mark up
Workflow continued: • Import into editor • Editor used for control of import : corrections etc. • Output to DDI • Files stored in database
Editor • Installable • Flexible • Extendable • Many perspectives of variables and questions
Implementation –so far • Officially implemented March 2011 • Users heavily involved from November 2010 • Regular release ’parties’ • JTrack used for bug messages • Users produce the help documentation
Final implementation – when? • What is still missing: • Import of filters • Import of multiple question items • Proof reader tool • Expected to be completed next year
Experiences • DDI is a complex structure • A long period before our users got really involved • Original design not changed
