  2. Why join a network? The Maltese market is small and characterized by micro cos. and SME's. Common limitations: • Lack of time to perform market research • Lack of funds to break out into foreign markets • Lack of export experience which makes the venture risky

  3. Further Difficulties of going it alone • You are unlikely to produce the volumes required for large markets • Your range of products is too limited • You may not meet the quality standards required by target markets

  4. Benefits of network collaboration • Membership in a network could overcome difficulties via the: Pooling of resources: • time • expertise • finances

  5. We are here to help • Malta Enterprise can provide aid, both: • Expertise and • Financial This aid will be provided to companies who demonstrate a willingness to cooperate with others in order to enhance their levels of competitiveness.

  6. Expertise A Business advisor, free of charge for the initial consultancy work. The B.A. will help: • Identify strengths and weaknesses • Identify target markets • Advise on an action plan

  7. Financial Assistance M.E. will provide up to 60% of funds needed to: • Set up a common, multilingual website • Create a common brand image • Produce marketing materials • Certify products to meet legislative requirements of target markets • Participate in any fairs/missions in targeted markets • Pay salary of a Network coordinator

  8. Structure • 3 to 8 companies (NOT belonging to a single group of companies) • Preferable from complementary sectors • Must draw up and sign a private agreement laying down terms which are acceptable to all.

  9. Types of network Either: • Promotional – focused on international marketing Or: • Sales – includes joint purchasing of materials and/or export sales

What are we looking for? • To get the best out of this experience, applicants should meet the following criteria: • be reputable; • be financially stable; • manufacture products or provide services that are, or may be, developed to international quality expectations; • be able to commit resources (human, financial and production) to the network’s activities; • ideally have an internal culture that promotes flexibility and teamwork
