  1. Department of Biochemistry at the University of Bristol Independent Research Fellowships The Department of Biochemistry at the University of Bristol has a strong track record of attracting and supporting Independent Research Fellows. We will hold an Open Day on 12th May 2009 in order to ensure that we continue to attract the very best candidates for such fellowships. Invited candidates will give research presentations and will have the opportunity to see the excellent range of facilities available within the School of Medical Sciences and to have discussions with staff in the Department. Selected individuals will be fully supported by the Department in subsequent applications for Independent Research Fellowships (both junior and senior) to be held in the Department. Two ‘University Research Themes’, ‘Mechanistic and Structural Biochemistry’ and ‘Cell Biology’ are led by senior staff in the Department; these themes encompass much of the current research within the Department. Further information regarding the Department can be found at http://www.bris.ac.uk/biochemistry/ Applications to attend the Open Day should take the form of a cv (including contact detail for two referees) and a covering letter outlining future research plans. Applications should be submitted to the Head of Department, Prof. George Banting (g.banting@bristol.ac.uk) by 29th April 2009 Informal enquiries are welcome and should be directed to Prof. Banting by email or phone (01173312164). The Department holds an Athena Silver SWAN award for excellence in recruiting and progressing women in science, engineering and technology (SET).
