Seminar Presenter Development Program (SPDP) Cooperative effort between GWRRA Leadership Training and Rider Education. 1 day course to prepare prospective Seminar Presenters to provide consistent high quality training to the GWRRA Membership. This program certifies them to teach only Rider Education Seminars. To teach Leadership Training Seminars will require the Candidate to take additional training from Leadership Training. 4. Seminar Presenter Development Program (SPDP) Completion of the program requires: Satisfactory evaluations in the SPDP classroom Two “field” Seminar Presentations. The classroom portion of the program is presented to the Candidates by a Leadership Training Senior Master Trainer and a Region/District Educator. Each Instructor is responsible for a portion of the presentation. The “field” evaluations are the responsibility of Rider Education. So You Want to Become Seminar Presenter?

8. Procedures & Policies Who may apply for appointment as a Rider Education Seminar Presenter? Full or Associate members may apply by completing the Rider Education Seminar Presenters application. Certification “Waivers” are not generally available Seminar Presenters demonstrate complete knowledge of the program content and well developed skill in presenting the program to others. 9. Procedures & Policies Certification Officials are District Educators, Region Educators, or the Director- Rider Education. SPDP must be completed within 6 months of appointment. 11. Goals A dedicated, well equipped, corps of Seminar Presenters who are adequately trained to deliver the Rider Education seminars in a professional manner. A comprehensive set of guidelines for use in implementing and managing effective Rider Education Training. A well rounded and flexible Rider Education Seminar curriculum. 12. The Rider Ed Seminar Presenter Tenure: Appointed by, and report to, the local Region or District Educator. Not a lifetime appointment, but serve at the pleasure of their certifying official. What must a Presenter do to maintain his/her certification? Every two years the Presenter is evaluated. 14. Scope & General Responsibilities Support and cooperate with volunteer Leadership. Attend Regional and District meetings and other training events as requested. Complete the GWRRA Rider Education Seminar Presenter Development Program and maintain current certification. Present and evaluate training seminars. 15. Selecting a Good Seminar Presenter? Who actively participates? Who is interested in how the organization works? Who relates well to the chapter participants? Who has leadership training experience or contributes time and ideas? Who are the most dependable staff/members? Who knows how to influence people in a positive way? 16. Appointment Procedure Candidates for Seminar Presenter Position receive: A copy of the position description. An application for the Seminar Presenter position. A thorough interview including a discussion of the position and its related expectations. Candidate then forwards the completed application to the appointing official. 17. Appointment Process The appointment process is as follows: There is a review of the application and resume. Verification of membership status. Successful completion of the SPDP and field evaluation. Submission of all paperwork to the Region Educator. The appointed Seminar Presenter will receive: Rider Education Certified Seminar Presenter card. A letter of appointment. A copy of the approved application. So You Want to Become Seminar Presenter?

20. Core Seminars What are the six officially approved Rider Education seminars? Co-Rider Seminar Road Captains Course/Seminar Team Riding (a.k.a.: Group Riding) Seminar Trailering Seminar Motorcycling for the Mature Rider Motorcycle Crash Scene Response Does this preclude presenters from developing and using other seminars and approaches? No. Another commonly used seminar is the Seasoned Rider from MSF. The exception is Leadership Training Seminars. So You Want to Become Seminar Presenter?

21. Peer Teaching As Part of the SPDP Process: Peer-teach a seminar to your fellow classmates at the SPDP. Develop your lesson plan using Exercise 2. Time: 10-15 minutes During your presentation cover the following: Introduce yourself to the Class. Tell them what you will be telling them. Tell them. Tell them what you have told them. 22. Field Seminar Presentations Once the SPDP is completed with satisfactory classroom evaluations there is a final step – 2 Field Seminar presentation observations. These are conducted by a Certifying Official May be a Chapter Presentation, or during a District or Region sponsored Event Certifier will observe and offer coaching. In rare circumstances, the certifier has the authority to terminate the process - and the responsibility to take over the presentation if necessary. So You Want to Become Seminar Presenter?

23. Seminar Review Process within the District Seminar Presenters coordinate their Presentations with the District/Region Educator (DE/RE). There may be opportunities to train other Chapters/Members DEs should strive to observe the active Seminar Presenters in their District whenever possible. Share Student Feedback with the DE or RE as an alternative to schedule conflicts and large distances preventing observation. Provide suggestions for consideration in future revisions to the responsible Assistant to the Director of GWRRA Rider Education to improve the course. So You Want to Become Seminar Presenter?

24. How Do I Sign Up for a SPDP? Contact your District or Region Educator and let them know you are interested. Once enough prospective Seminar Presenters are available, the DE will organize the SPDP. Depending on the finances in the District, you may be asked to pay for a portion of the cost of your Student materials. So You Want to Become Seminar Presenter?

25. Restrictions Who can I present the seminar to? The class should be substantially GWRRA members – it was developed for them Others are OK – it may be a good recruiting tool to include prospective Members What can I charge for my services? Our Seminar Presenters are volunteers. There is no charge for the presenter’s time Depending on the finances of the group requesting the seminar, full or partial reimbursement for legitimate expenses may be offered Obligations To remain certified, the Seminar Presenter must present a minimum of 2 seminars in the renewal period (2 years) So You Want to Become Seminar Presenter?

26. Rewards Why do Seminar Presenters do what they do? The knowledge imparted may save the life of a Member, friend, or loved one. Potential injuries can be reduced.
