  2. What is a Migrant Child? • Between ages 3-21 • Has moved across a school district line • Within preceding 36 months • Seasonal employment • Agricultural or fishing

Education of Migratory Child:Program Purpose • Support high-quality and comprehensive educational programs • Ensure that migratory children who move among the states are not penalized in any manner • Ensure that migratory children are provided with appropriate educational services • Ensure that migratory children receive full and appropriate opportunities • Design programs to help migratory children overcome educational disruption, cultural and language barriers, social isolation , various health-related problems and other factors that inhibit the ability of such children to do well in school

How do we best serve our Migrant Students? • As part of the 2001 No Child Left Behind Act, all eligible migrant families are to be identified and recruited to receive program services • Eligible families will receive supportive services, which include but are not limited to: scholarship opportunities, family literacy designed to educate the entire migrant family, advocacy/outreach activities for migratory children and their families • Parent involvement activities

  5. New Registration Forms • If a parent checks yes to:- “Have you, or has anyone you know worked in the farming/agricultural industry in the past three years?” • Copy second page; include student’s FSI# and pony to the Title 1 Department, Attn: Lenora Burney

  6. MSIX – MIGRANT STUDENT INFORMATION EXCHANGE • MSIX is an online system containing migrant student records from all participating states to facilitate the national exchange of migrant students’ educational information among the states. • MSIX produces a single “consolidated record” for each migrant child that contains information from each state in which the child was ever enrolled. • MSIX contains the minimum data elements necessary for the proper enrollment, grade and course placement, and accrual of credits for migrant children.
