RGHS The Innovation Approach: The Change Agent The Adoption The S-Curve
RGHS By knowing the 5-stage innovation-decision process works? Rogers (2003) says: • The Innovator/plays gatekeeper role in new ideas of system. • The Early adopter/puts his/her stamp of approval on idea. • The Early majority/follows with deliberate willingness in adopting innovations but seldom leads. • The Late majority/adopt new ideas just after the average member of a system. • The Laggards/must be certain that new idea will not fail before they can adopt. (Simon&Schuster, pp.270-285)

RGHS Schedule for adoption Change the Policy to allow individual teachers to choose to use cell phones for academic purposes. Formally inform the staff, emphasizing it is their choice, but that the school will allow cell phone use for academic assignments. Inform the parents of the new policy (K. Rogers) Hire an Agent for Change (I am available) Find a core group of five or so teachers to volunteer to use cell phones and discuss their successes and failures . Revisit the issue after two years.

RGHS Stages for Adopting the Mimio System *Rogers (2003) The point at which diffusion is impossible to stop, generally about 20%. (Simon & Schuster, p. 169). • Knowledge—Several of the accompanying videos show that the Mimio Systems works. (Mimio Training) • Persuasion—mass media--Teachers use them instead of Promethean Boards speaks for its adoption. (Baggett) • Decision (critical mass*)-Increased usage 2009 (Earthtimes) • Implementation– 97% in 2010 (DIB) • Confirmation—White Board becomes interactive. (Digital)
