Early Response Events to ModerateDouble Strand Break (DSB) Levels
The MRE11-RAD50-NBS1 (MRN) complex is essential for the initial damage processing of DSBs. Processed DSBs leads to the recruitment and subsequent activation of ATM, which then can phosphorylate its substrates, including MRE11 and NBS1. Phosphorylated NBS1 plays a role in checkpoint activation and can also facilitate the phosphorylation of certain ATM effectors. Adapted from Uziel T. et al The EMBO Journal 22:5612, 2003.
