  3. Chapter 7 • Read the passage about the children’s history textbook that Winston copies into his diary. How accurate is it as a picture of the past? • Why does the Aaronson, Jones and Rutherford incident become significant for Winston? How do their professions pose a threat to the Party? • Explain the quote: ‘I understand HOW: I do not understand WHY?’ p. 83 • Describe the lifestyle of the proles and their position in society. • According to Winston, what is freedom?
