Dale & Jan Crall Nov. 8-10 Ignite: How Do We Know the Bible is Really God’s Word? Sat. @ 10am – Purity (guys & gals separate) Sun @ 10am Sunday School (First AG) Sun @ 1pm Discipleship Q & A (Esther House luncheon)
Triad Talks • Share your name/major/etc. • Where do you spend most of your time? • Tell about a time as a child when you did something wrong and tried to cover it up.
Proverbs 18:1 He who separates himself seeks his own desire, He quarrels against all sound wisdom.
Sin will always… • take you farther than you wanted to go, keep you longer than you wanted to stay, & cost you more than you intended to pay.
Psalm 37:4 • Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.
Freedom is not about suppressing sin but finding our desires met in God!
John 7:37-38 • “Let anyone who is thirsty come to Me and drink. Whoever believes in Me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.”
Seven Major Thirsts • Attention – people to like me • Affection – take pleasure in who I am • Affirmation – for others to bless & encourage me • Acceptance – to know I belong and feel desired • Satisfaction – for fullness and well-being • Significance – to make an impact and have meaning • Security – to know I’ll be OK
James 5:16 • Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed.
Three Step Process • Ask God what lie you believe • Renounce lie • Ask Jesus for His truth that replaces lie
Philippians 3:18-19 • For many walk, of whom I often told you, and now tell you even weeping, that they are enemies of the cross of Christ, whose end is destruction, whose god is their appetite, and whose glory is in their shame, who set their minds on earthly things.
“The greatest barrier to the life of freedom that God desires for us is not our brokenness. It is brokenness unsurrendered.” • —Michael Cusick, Surfing for God
Romans 2:28-29 • A person is not a Jew who is one only outwardly, nor is circumcision merely outward and physical. No, a person is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is circumcision of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the written code. Such a person’s praise is not from other people, but from God.
Circumcision of the heart: • Identity
Romans 7:17 • As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me.
Circumcision of the heart: • Identity • Nothing hidden • Be life giver
Are you willing to…. • Surrender your desires to God and let Him circumcise your heart? • Commit to exposing sin in the light & take the risk to let someone love you w/o mask? • Commit to asking God to show you what you really thirst for and receiving His good gift to fill that thirst in legitimate ways?
