Aggie Bonfire Catastrophe By Roberto Aguilar
Accomplishment? • The design was supposed to make the bonfire collapse on itself in a twisting motion protecting the crowd.
Why did it fail? • Some of the reasons were excessive internal stresses on the logs and not good enough containment strength. Also the wires used to ties the logs together were not strong enough .Another reason was that logs from the upper tiers were wedged into lower tiers adding extra stress.
How to prevent? • They could have done research on the style they changed to. Done the project in smaller scales. They should have added safety not only for outside students but people working on it inside.
Final Summary • They should have changed the technique used for the bonfire to make sure it was safe, and still add protection for those working on it.
