Realization of UNECE ESD strategy in Ukraine results and future plans

This article highlights the successful integration of the UNECE Strategy for Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) into national policies in Ukraine, including the establishment of an ESD Interagency Coordination Center and the development of software and educational support. The steps taken for ESD development in Ukraine are outlined, along with plans for enhancing cooperation, creating a database of best practices, and strengthening international partnerships.

Main Achievements • Integration of the UNECE Strategy for Education for Sustainable Developmentin the national policy • The Law of Ukraine "On Main Provisions (Strategy) of the State Environmental Policy of Ukraine till 2020" (2010); • Decree of the President of Ukraine "On the National Strategy for the Development of Education in Ukraine for the Period till 2021" (2013); • It was established • ESD Interagency Coordination Center at the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine • Intersectoral Working Group for the development of environmental education and ESD • ESD Partner Network • Software and educational and methodological support for ESD was developed and implemented

The main steps of the ESD development in Ukraine • Implementation of ESD measures to the project of National Action Plan on Environmental Protection for 2016 - 2020 years • Enhancing of cooperation between the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the creation of a common action plan • Creation of the electronic resource - a database of ESD best practices • Strengthening of international cooperation for the exchange of scientific developments and achievements on ESD with scientific and educational institutions of UNECE countries within the EU program "Horizon 2020», IP Base and others. • Improvement of the ESD partner network
