Overview, Requirements and General Project Planning Krzysztof Czuba PRL PDR Lund, 15.03.2017
Project Scope • Design, delivery, installation and commissioning of the Main Phase Reference Distribution System (PRDS) called for simplicity Phase Reference Line (PRL) • The Main PRL covers signal distribution from the Master Oscillator output to tap point outputs in the tunnel WUT Contribution PRL Overview and Requirements, K. Czuba
General Design Requirements • Phasereference signal distribution from MO to tap points in the tunnel • Total length in the tunnel: ~581 m. • Number of taps: 56 (Taps have 6 or 3 outputs) • Total number of outputs: 294 • Work under heavy radiation level environment • Fulfill ESS fire safety rules Materials used for the project must be radiation hard and fire safe Mostly custom components PRL Overview and Requirements, K. Czuba
Signal Frequencies • 352.21 MHz for: • LLRF at RFQ, MEBT, DTL and Spokes • BPM at Medium β, High β, HEBT and A2T • BSM • 704.42 MHz for: • LLRF at Medium β and High β • BPM at LEBT, RFQ, MEBT, DTL and Spokes PRL Overview and Requirements, K. Czuba
Signal Parameter Requirements • Power levels: • input power level: 10 dBm (tbd. no final data received from MO designer), • output power levels: +15 dBm (±2 dB), i.e. +13 dBm…17 dBm. • Harmonics: -60 dBc • Phase noise: • < -70 dBc/Hz @1 Hz – 100 kHz (more detailed specification was not given) • Phase stability requirements (@ the same reference frequency): • phase drift between neighboring outputs: 0.1° • phase drifts between any PRL outputs: 2.0° • short-term (during one RF pulse: ~3.5 ms): 0.1° PRL Overview and Requirements, K. Czuba
Main PRDS Design Assumptions • Passive synchronization scheme with pick-up cables from RF cavities and BPM/LBMs paired and length-matched to corresponding reference cables from PRDS • Two phase reference sinusoidal signals: 352.21 MHz and 704.42 MHz distributed along the accelerator • One physical structure used to distribute both frequencies at a time PRL Overview and Requirements, K. Czuba
General Concept of the PRDS Main PRDS Includes the Main Phase Reference Line and Tap Points (see talk by Mateusz Żukociński for details) • Auxiliary systems: • Temperature control • Air pressure and humidity control • Monitoring • See talks by R. Papis and W Wierba Local PRDS – out of WUT scope PRL Overview and Requirements, K. Czuba
