In English, we often use very, most or extremely in front of an adjective. The equivilant in Spanish, add the endings directly on to the adjective: –ísimo / - ísima
For adjectives ending in a vowel, drop the vowel and add: • ísimo • ísima • ísimos • ísimas
guapo – guap • guapísimo • guapísima • guapísimos • guapísimas • very, extremely good-looking
sincero • sincerísimo • sincerísima • sincerísimos • sincerísimas • very, extremely sincere
contento • contentísimo • contentísima • contentísimos • contentísimas • very, extremely happy
mucho • muchísimo • muchísima • muchísimos • muchísimas • very, extremely much
grande • grandísimo • grandísima • grandísimos • grandísimas • very, extremely big
alto • altísimo • altísima • altísimos • altísimas • very, extremely tall

Los exámenes eran difíciles. The tests were difficult. Los exámenes eran dificilísimos. The tests were extremely difficult. Make sure you drop the “es” of difíciles before adding “ísimos”.
Notice the spelling changes that occur: • c qu • g gu • z c
cqurico • ricísimo – INCORRECT because the “c” has an “s” sound. • riquísimo – now you have the “k” sound. • riquísima • riquísimos • riquísimas • very, extremely rich

Nouns can have endings to show small size or to express affection.
For nouns ending in a vowel: • -ito • -ita • -itos • -itas
oso • osito • osita • ositos • ositas • little bear

For nouns ending in a consonant, simply add: • -cito • -cita • -citos • -citas
